1st proposal

I propose my project to be based around the river Aire. This is the main river that runs through the city of Leeds. The focus will be predominantly the river and how the area around it has changed over the years, and also how the river influences the city and vice versa. I will also look at what impact the Leeds and Liverpool canal has had to the river and surrounding areas. This will involve the history of the canal and how it was built and, how the use of the canal has changed throughout the years. My initial research will be drawing, painting, and video documentation of my thoughts and also of interviews on people who are involved in and around the river Aire. This will hopefully collate a good body of research. The collaboration aspect to my project will come in various ways, from involving people who are involved or are influenced or work with the river, to asking passers by to draw the river or comment on what the river is to them. Further into the project I would like to involve some sculptural aspects, and experiment with different media’s and processes. This will then channel in to an end of project exhibition where I intend to hold and exhibition on a barge and invite back the people who have influenced my project, and also contact other artist’s who have produced work about the river in any way or form. Throughout the project I will be heavily documenting the river to see thought-out my project if in such a short amount of time I notice if the river has changed, or affected me in some way or form. The exhibition will also contribute to the final body of work, weather it be a collection on work, or a small exhibition booklet about the influential people and thoughts to the project.
